Q1. What is Aftercad Online?
Answer:
Aftercad Online is a Software as a Service (SaaS) solution that has several main goals, including:
- Publishing 2D CAD, 3D CAD and GIS files to the internet.
- Providing technology to view 2D CAD, 3D CAD and GIS files in a web browser with no additional software requirements.
- Allow immediate sharing of annotations and markup; thereby making collaboration easy and fast.
- Allow users to centralize their 2D CAD, 3D CAD and GIS file storage on our secure servers for access from anywhere via the Internet.
Q2. How do I get Aftercad Online?

Q3. Can I view a file if I am not a registered user?
Answer:
- Yes, if an existing user shares a file with you, you will receive a guest log in and you will have access to your personal gallery.
Q4. Does Aftercad Online work behind a firewall?
Answer:
- In most cases, yes. For 3D functionality your firewall must allow access to port 80. Fortunately almost all firewalls have port 80 open for traffic.
- If port 80 is open and you are still having trouble accessing through your firewall, please contact customer service for help diagnosing your issue.
Q5. Do I need to configure my browser for Aftercad Online?
Answer:
- Maybe. We built a browser certification tool right into Aftercad Online to make this easy. If the browser certification tool (upper right hand on side of your browser) is green with a "check" mark, then you are ready to go.
- If the browser certification tool (upper right hand on side of your browser) is orange with an "x" then please click on the tool for further information.
Q6. How do I update my personal profile?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My Account" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- You will be able to use the "Account Summary" Page to view or edit your profile as well as to change your password, service level and billing information.
Q7. How do I update my password?
Answer:
- After Log in, Click on "My Account" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- Click on the "User Credentials" Tab.
- After entering your new password (twice) press the "Update Registration" button to submit.
Q8. How do I change my billing information?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My Account" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- Click on the "Billing" Tab to access and make changes to your billing information.
Q9. How do I upgrade my account?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My Account" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- If you are not on the "Account Summary" Page, click the "Account Summary" tab.
- You will be able to view your current package and account summary in this page.
- From this page you will be able to select a new package.
- After selecting your new package you will be re-directed to the "Billing" Page.
Q10. Where can I check my account summary and usage?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My Account" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- Select "Account Summary" to view your current package.
- Select "Usage" to view your usage metrics.
Q11. How do I create a new folder?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My WorkSpace" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- You can see the "My Files" default folder if you are already a subscriber after the billing process.
- You can create your own folder to organize your source files by right clicking "New Folder" under menu items or go directly to "Folder"->"New Folder" on the "My Workspace" menu bar.
- This will bring a Form. Fill out the related folder information then click on the "Finish" button.
Q12. How do I share a project folder?
Answer:
- Drag and drop a folder from the right hand pane into "My Projects"
- Or select the folder / file and hit the drop down menu option "Folder" / "Item" and copy it to "My projects".
- Select the folder under "My projects" and add the viewer or collaborator in the bottom right hand pane.
Please note this will share all files and sub-folders from this location.
- The person will then be invited by email to login and see the files within the project you have shared under their "Shared projects" folder. A collaborator, once they have a trial or a paying account can also add files to this shared folder. You can view these from your "My Projects" folder.
Q13. How do I upload a source file?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My WorkSpace" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- Right Click on either "My Files" or a sub-folder.
- Select "New File..." in the context menu. Alternatively go directly to "Folder"->"New File..." on the top menu. This will launch the file upload window.
- In the file upload window press the "Browse..." button to select a source file.
- Choose the file to upload and press "Open" bringing you back to the file upload screen. Click "Next" to continue.
- The next page gives you the opportunity to enter information (metadata) about the file. At this point you may also check the "Convert File:" box to automatically convert the uploaded file to an ACO Document.
- Click on the "Finish" button to upload the selected file.
Q14. Do you have any file restrictions?
Answer:
- There are no restrictions on the type of files that can be uploaded into you "My Files" folder.
- Currently we have a 200MB cap on the file size that can be uploaded using the ACO website. If you wish to upload larger files please contact customer service for access to our FTP file upload service.
Q15. Do you offer "Batch" upload for larger libraries?

Q16. How do I convert a source file?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My WorkSpace" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- Select "My Files" or a populated sub folder in the left hand pane.
- In the top right hand pane, select the file you want to convert.
- In the bottom right hand pane select the "ACO Documents" Tab.
- In the "ACO Documents" section, click on "Convert".
- Select from the conversion options or proceed with the default settings.
- Press the "Convert" button to start conversion.
- NOTE: when converting AutoCAD (.DWG) files to ACO 2D Documents, initial view will be "zoom-to-extents".If the AutoCAD file has geometry that the user does not want in the initial "zoom-to-extents" view, the user can delete the unwanted geometry in the source file prior to converting.
- Most conversions will be completed within seconds; however, very large and complex files may take several minutes.
- After successful conversion, the user will see that the status is "Completed".
- The user can go to "My WebDocs" to view this converted ACO 2D Diagram.
Q17. How do I view a Aftercad Online Document?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My WorkSpace" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- In the left hand pane select "My WebDocs".
- Select the document you would like to view in the upper right hand pane.
- Right click on the selected document and in the context menu click on "View".
- This will launch a gallery page allowing you to view the document.
Q18. How do I share an Aftercad Online Document with other users?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My WorkSpace" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- In the left hand pane select "My WebDocs".
- Select the document you would like to share in the upper right hand pane.
- Click on the "Share" tab in the bottom right hand Pane.
- Enter a valid e-mail address for the invited user into the Text Box.
- Identify this user as a viewer or a collaborator.
- Click "invite".
- If the invited user is not a member of ACO, they will be sent log-in information along with their invitation to view the document.
Q19. What file types can be converted to ACO 2D Diagrams?
Answer:
- You can upload virtually any file type into your "My Files" Folder. However, only DWG files can currently be converted to ACO Documents for sharing.
Q20. When converting my CAD document to an ACO 2D Document, my geometry seems very small and distant. How do I fix this?
Answer: When converting to an ACO 2D Document, the initial view is zoomed to the extents of the geometry. If there is extraneous geometry that is widely spaced out in the Model view, then the initial view will display mostly empty space.
To work around this issue:
- Open the CAD file in AutoCAD
- Select Zoom to Extents
- Select the geometry that you do not want to be displayed in the converted ACO 2D document, and save
- Upload again to Aftercad Online and Convert
Q21. What viewing tools does Aftercad Online offer for viewing ACO 2D Diagrams?
Answer:
- The "Zoom Tool", to zoom-in/zoom-out, is operated by clicking on the Zoom Level Indicator or by using a wheel mouse.
- To "Pan" left click-and-hold on the drawing then move your mouse.
- The "Layer" icon in the left hand tool bar allows you to turn layers on and off by clicking on the "eye" to the left of the layer description and thumbnail.
Q22. Does ACO Support Multi-bit (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, etc.) fonts?
Answer:
- Not yet. We expect to have full multi-bit font support soon.
- Please rename your multi-bit font file names to single bit font file names in order to view your files (Note: the multi-bit fonts will not be converted)
Q23. How do I use annotation Tool?
Answer:
- While viewing a 2D diagram, select the annotation flag on the left hand tool menu.
- From the drop down annotation menu, select the type of annotation flag you would like to use (point, rectangle or oval).
- After selecting your annotation type either left click on the diagram where you would like the annotation to go (point) or left-hold-and-drag on the diagram (rectangle or oval).
- You will then see the annotation bubble with three icons in the upper right hand side. Click on the "Edit" (left) icon to launch the annotation edit window.
- Create your annotation in the annotation edit window and click "Save" to post the annotation.
Q24. How do I modify a source file's attributes?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My WorkSpace" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- Select "My Files" or the appropriate sub-folder.
- In the upper right hand pane, select the file whose attributes you wish to modify.
- Right-Click on the selected file and select "Edit Attributes" from the context menu.
Q25. How do I lock a file?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My WorkSpace" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- In the upper right hand pane, select the file you wish to lock.
- Right click on the selected file and choose "Lock" from the context menu.
- This will protect the file from any modifications, mark up or annotations.
Q26. How do I download a source file?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My WorkSpace" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- In the upper right hand pane, select the file you wish to Downoad.
- Right click on the selected file and choose "Download File" from the context menu.
Q27. How do I create a new version of an existing source file?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My WorkSpace" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- In the upper right hand pane, select the file you wish to make a new version of.
- Right click on the selected file and choose "New Version" from the context menu.
- Right-Click the "New Version" menu item to add/create a new version of an existing file.
Q28. How do I delete a source file?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My WorkSpace" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- In the upper right hand pane, select the file you wish to delete.
- Right click on the selected file and choose "Delete" from the context menu.
- Note: this action cannot be undone.
Q29. How do I modify an Aftercad Online Document's attributes?

- After Login, Click on "My WorkSpace" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- Select "My WebDocs" or the appropriate sub-folder.
- In the upper right hand pane, select the file whose attributes you wish to modify.
- Right-Click on the selected file and select "Edit Attributes" from the context menu.
Q30. What if my file did not convert correctly?
Answer:
- Was your DWG file originally produced with Autodesk? If not, please use an application like Autodesk DWG TrueView™to convert your source file to TrustedDWG and re-upload.
- Does your original (source) file contain ARX dependencies? Aftercad Online cannot support all of the thousands of plugin's available for DWG, however we are prioritizing a list of the most common ones and will have support for them in a future update.
Q31. My black on white file is missing text?
Answer:
- Please note that ACO assumes the CAD standard black background. If your file has black text on a white background it will be converted to black text on black background. Please convert your document to the CAD standard black background using your authoring application.
Q32. How do I lock an Aftercad Online Document?
Answer:
- After Login, Click on "My WorkSpace" in the Navigation Menu Bar.
- Select "My WebDocs" or the appropriate sub-folder.
- In the upper right hand pane, select the file you wish to lock.
- Right click on the selected file and choose "Lock" from the context menu.
- This will protect the file from any modifications, mark up or annotations.
